MY MEARS RATING SYSTEM!

When I was with the Dallas Cowboys in 1975-76, we had a Player Rating System  that we used in the 1976 NFL Draft. That Player Rating System was used to conclude that Tony Dorsett was our #1 Player in that 1976 NFL Draft. Then when I left the Cowboys in 1976, I developed a similar Player Rating System and called it the MEARS RATING SYSTEM or MEARS RATING.

I shelved this Player Rating System until 2001, when NIKE Sports developed a similar rating system and called it the SPARQ RATING SYSTEM. I then implemented my Player Rating System again and I called it the MAX EMFINGER ASSET RATING SYSTEM or MEARS RATING.

ASSET stands for Agility, Strength, Stamina, Explosiveness, and Technique. These are Essential Tools or Athletic Skills that can indicate Superior Athletic Performance in any competitive Sport or Event. This new MEARS RATING SYSTEM or a similar Player Rating System, identifies overall Athletic Ability, and it can be used by Top College and Pro Coaches around the country as an initial indicator of the Athletic Potential of an athlete on the football field.

Whether you are a College Football Coach and you only have one scholarship left to give in your current recruiting class or you are an NFL or any other Professional Football Team and you only have one Draft Choice left on your current Professional or NFL Draft Board, there needs to be a Player Rating System that you can go to and based on the highest rated player, would give you the very best player available irregardless of position.

The MEARS RATING SYSTEM, or a similar type Rating System, is very important for the NFL Scouts, and the NFL Scouting Combine is the first time that “Accurate Numbers” are recorded on these NFL Players. It’s easy to say someone can run a 4.4 or a 4.3 in the Forty, but before an Accurate Hand-Held Timing by a Professional Talent Scout or either by a slower, but Accurate Laser Timing is done, most Forty Times are less than Accurate.

Technique is also very important and that is why College Football Players entering the NFL Draft will hire a Sports Trainer to train and teach them how to do a proper Vertical Jump, Pro-Agility Shuttle, or a Standing Broad Jump.

You can get a very good idea about a High School Football Player if he participates in a Legitimate Super Football Combine, but many High School Football Players do not get a chance to participate in Super Combines. If a High School Football Player is being recruited by 40 D-1 Schools, then you have to assume that he is an outstanding Football Player, but how can you give this player a MEARS RATING if he does not have Valid Measurables? The answer is Very Simple! If you have some of his Speed Measurables, you can approximate his other Speed Measurables based upon his Game Film Evaluation or Actual Game Evaluation, giving him the Maximum Points on most of his Speed Measurables for his position.

Most High School and College Football Players don’t even know what their Measurables are and you would think that they would, but they don’t. Many times, a High School or College Football Player will list his best Forty Time as a 4.8 and then twenty minutes later run a 4.6 Forty or better. Also, you must keep in mind that with a little instruction and training, most High School and College Football Players can improve their Speed Measurables by Two and Three Tenths of a Second and can improve on their Distance Measurables by as much as Six to Eight Inches.

Some of this Information may not mean as much to you as other parts, but all Players and Coaches need to understand How and Why this MEARS RATING SYSTEM was Developed and how it has Evolved over the Years.

In the 2014 NFL Draft, there were Twenty-One Players that reached the 2,200 MEARS RATING Plateau. Below are those Twenty-One Players with all of their  Measurables, and with their MEARS RATING, and Draft Info.

By 2001, all of the other Recruiting Services were using a Five-Star Player Rating System Method which does not Measure anything. One year, at the start of the Spring, there were 45 Wide Receivers that were Rated a Four-Star Player Rating by one Recruiting Service. We went to bed one night and the next morning there were only 25. Someone at that Recruiting Service had decided that there could not be but only 25 Four-Star Wide Receivers and he had demoted 20 Wide Receivers to a Three-Star Player Rating.

In the last Four Months, I have literally Evaluated over 1,200 High School Football Players on their Hudl, NCSA, or YouTube High School Highlight Film, who in most cases, look like they might be Currently Flying Under The Recruiting Radar to most of the Division I College Football Coaches. I have also Found 208 Super Stars and I have invited all of them to participate in my Eleventh Annual 2015 All-American Bowl Game Classic. Out of all of those Players, Fifty-Five Players have Accepted my Invitation and have Responded by Turning in their Paperwork to Play in Our 2015 Eleventh Annual All-American Football Classic Game.

The Eleventh Annual 2015 International All-American Bowl Game Classic will be played in a Louisiana Football Stadium to be Announced very shortly. The Game will be played on January 3, 2015.

When I first talked to Coach Lance Heron about the New Professional Showcase Developmental Football League, I was excited, because the New Pro Football League was being formed for the same Super Football Players that I look for to participate in my All-American Bowl Game Classics. I was so impressed with Coach Heron, I invited him to Coach the West Team Wide Receivers in my 2014 All-American Bowl Game Classic and he accepted.

Coach Heron also told me about another Super Coach named John Gregory who had already won two Canadian Grey Cup World Football Championships and would be one of the New Head Coaches in the New Pro Football League. Coach Heron also said that Coach Gregory might also be available to Coach in my 2014 All-American Bowl Game Classic and so I called him and he also accepted.

Then Coach Heron invited me to be a Special Guest Super Scout in the John Lestini Group Super Agent Combine that was being held in conjunction with the start of the 2014 Senior Bowl Game in Mobile, Alabama. We also have plans again for this Lestini Group Super Free Agents Combine that will be held on January 17-18, 2015, just before the 2015 NFL Draft.

Coach Heron Coached the West Team Wide Receivers and Coach Gregory Coached the West Team Quarterbacks in my 2014 All-American Bowl Game Classic and then two weeks later Coach Gregory Coached the Quarterbacks and Coach Heron Coached the Wide Receivers in the John Lestini Group Super Combine; while I evaluated all  the Free Agent Players in the Super Combine.

I mention this for one reason. Coach Heron and Coach Gregory Coached a lot of great Football Players in those two Coaching Situations and we talked a lot about the Talent Level in both groups. Together, we made some Startling Evaluations that were pretty amazing. We came to the similar conclusion that there were two High School Quarterbacks and two High School Wide Receivers that were as good or better than all of the Free Agents at the Super Combine; that further proves our point that there are always Super Football Players that are Flying Under The Recruiting Radar.

I will add that there was a Tight End and Linebacker on the West Team and a Quarterback, Tight End, and two All-Purpose Players on the East Team that were better than all of the Players at their position at the Free Agent Camp. The amazing fact was that most of those players did not have Scholarship Offers before the First Practice.

The New Professional Football Showcase will Target many of the same Football Players that I have Targeted for my All-American Bowl Games. These are the Super Football Players with Tons of Potential Talent, but who for some crazy reason, have been overlooked; but are Super Football Players with Outstanding and Freaky Measurables and are Praying for that Once in a Lifetime Opportunity to show what they can do.

There will always be some Super Star Players, who although they have a few Scholarship Offers including, CampbellWalker, CottrellHarris, Warren, McCleskeyPinkney, Waters, Milton, and Thompson; but are still Flying Under The Recruiting Radar with the Majority of Major Division I Schools College Coaches. Some of these Players should have 30 and 40 Scholarship Offers, but they don’t, but all of these Super Star Players have at least Five Division I Offers. Some of these Players are as Follows and I have also invited them to play in the Eleventh Annual 2015 All-American Bowl Game Classic!

SUPER STAR PLAYERS INVITED, BUT NOT RESPONDED!

On Halloween Night, I decided to go “Trick-or-Treating” in one of my “Ole Stopping Grounds” and Covington St Paul was playing Ponchatoula in a key District 6-5A Championship Showdown.  We lived in Hammond for two years in 1997 and 1998 and then we moved to Covington St Paul where my Son, Eric, got the Winning “Walk-Off” Hit in the Bottom of the Seventh Inning to help St Paul to win the 1999 Louisiana 4A State Baseball Championship.

Ponchatoula is just across I-10 from Hammond and Covington is just Down I-10 and we lived in that Area for about 12 Years, so going back to a Football Game was Great and this game between St Paul and Ponchatoula was one of the Top Games in the State of Louisiana on Halloween Night. And Remember that Ponchatoula QB Christian Campbell (6-2, 190, 4.45) and DE Reggie Walker (6-3, 235, 4.52) are two of the best players in Louisiana and I also wanted to Check-Out a Little All-Purpose RB for Ponchatoula named Brian Rodgers (5-10, 175, 4.4) ; St Paul WR Jalen McCleskey (5-9, 165, 4.37) who is a Top Wide Receiver; and St Paul OG Brad Clawson (6-1, 285, 5.2); who is the Son of my Dentist, Bryan Clawson.

I certainly wasn’t disappointed in any of the Players that I wanted to see.  In fact, Campbell and Rodgers both made a couple of great runs in the First Half that were really outstanding. Then with 1:04 left in the First Half and Ponchatoua leading by a 28-3 score, Campbell hit Rodgers in the Left Flat on a Screen-Pass for 39-Yards, down to the One-Yard Line and then he scored the Touchdown on the next play, giving Ponchatoula a 35-3 Lead at Half-Time.

Then another Ponchatoula Player emerged as their Kicker, Aaron Malik, Kicked the Extra Point that looked like it traveled about 50-Yards out of Ponchatoula Stadium. So then, I decided to see how far he kicked-off on the Kick-Off and it went Six or Eight-Yards Deep into the End-Zone, so he got an Invitation, to play in the All-American Bowl Game, along with Rodgers. Campbell, Walker, and McCleskey already have Invitations. On the Sideline, Campbell and Walker said they were playing in the Game with Rodgers. I also really liked Clawson.

I left this Game at Halftime to try to catch the Second Half of the Amite and Independence District Game, which was just Up-I-55, going to Jackson. Amite is Loaded again this year and is one of the Top 3A Teams in Louisiana. They have a Great QB in Davarious Henderson (6-1, 185, 4.5); DT Fred Torrence (6-2, 321, 5.2); DE Bradley Porter (6-2, 250, 4.7); and great CB Brandon Burton (5-8, 165, 4.4); plus their Head Coach, Alden Foster has been a Good Friend for Years.

I got to the Amite Game at the Start of the Fourth Quarter with Amite winning 35-0. They had already taken most of their Starters out, but there was an NFL-Looking Player sitting on the Amite Bench and I immediately asked who was #58 on the Bench and I was told that it was Fred Torrence. I also watched #15 Davarious Henderson throw a Deep Pass Down-Field and I also noticed that he threw it with his Left Hand. After the Game, I gave Coach Foster Invitations to give to his Amite Super-Stars.

Before Friday night August 22, Trey Potts had never played a down of High School Football, but for those in attendance at Athens, Alabama Golden Eagle Stadium for the season opener, that was hard to believe by the looks of his performance. Potts, a standout on the Athens Basketball Team, had eight catches for 122-Yards, including a 34-Yard Touchdown to lead the Golden Eagles to a 28-7 Victory over Lee-Huntsville.

“We saw what we expected,” Athens Head Coach Allen Creasy said. “Trey Potts has tremendous talent. He’s still learning and has a long way to go, but he will get there, and he also has a Great Group of Guys around him as well.”

Super-Star RB Jakayus Leaphart (6-2, 210, 4.5) of Lexington Gilbert, South Carolina was Incredible in a recent game as he rushed for 274-Yards and Five Touchdowns in Averaging Eight yards per carry on 34 attempts as he helped his Indians to a 55-21 victory over Brookland-Cayce.

“The Offensive Line blocked real well all night and I ran behind Tight End Garnett Cason (6-3, 217, 4.6) who blocked and opened up holes all night for me to run,” Leaphart said. “On Defense, they got all of the stops we needed to get the offense back on the field and Junior QB Nick Hendrix made some great connections with WR Tristan Register (6-2, 185, 4.5) in the Passing Game, giving me more opportunities to have a great night Running the Football.”

After this great Game, I have invited Leaphart, Cason, and Register to play in the Eleventh Annual All-American Bowl Game.

About maxemfingerrecruiting

My mission and goal is to search for that hidden high school football talent that has not been found yet. I then evaluate him and try to help him to get some publicity. In 2003, 2004, 2005. and 2006, I hosted my Annual 7on7 National Championship. My goal was to get great athletes to one area where I could evaluate them and then help them with college coaches. The only drawback was that college coaches wanted to see the hidden gems in a game-type highlight film and so the college coaches suggested to me that I host a real All-American Bowl Game so that they could view these talented players in a highlight film, playing against other talented players. It's noted that the NCAA doesn't allow the college coaches to attend All-American Games or practices and so the Game Film is a great tool for the college coaches. In 2005, I hosted my 1st Annual All-American Bowl Game. In nine games in nine years, my wife and I have helped 549 HS football players to get a scholarship that came to our first Bowl Game practice without a single scholarship offer. This also does not count over 1,000 players who we have helped that did not play in our game, including over 100 players in the 2010 Recruiting Season. My Super Elite Top Gun Camp idealogy, is of course, to get as many Top Football Players to a Top Gun Camp so that all of my coaches and I can evaluate them, rate them, rank them, and promote them. There will always be "Diamonds in the Rough" to be found. My First Annual Max Emfinger's Super Elite Top Gun Camp was in July of 2010. The Camp was amazing and loaded with unknown and known talent. Many of them were invited to play in our 2011 All-American Bowl Game Classic. In 2007, in my 3rd Annual All-American Bowl Game, a player by the name of Kareem Jackson came to our first Monday practice, without a single scholarship offer. Jackson decided to come out early and he became a #1 Draft Choice in the 2010 NFL Draft for the Houston Texans.
